Shopping At Its Best!

The Country Register began as a way to promote independent country shops back in the days when "country" was all about a certain "look." Well, "country" is still a very in "look" with just a new twist and and today's country look is called many different names. New publications have been put out promoting "country" in various ways. If you can't choose one certain look you can always do a nice blend of various styles. All you need to do to find out what the current trend is would be to go to one of the many Vintage / Antique shops that have popped up all over the country, quaint gift and decor shops.

The shops will help you find out whats in and what's out. Some will be more about Primitives, others about today's Country style, Farm style, BoHo, while others will take off on a total Vintage look. Chalk painted furniture has been popular for some time now and shows no signs of slowing down. It is fun to do, easy enough for the home crafter and very poplar selling in home decor and vintage stores. It is really big at the Vintage Events. I speak from experience after creating Love of Junk, Walla Walla’s Vintage Market on my kids farm and in the barn. I watch what get carried away from the show… and see all the beautiful booths before the shopping frenzy begins at our June annual event. June 15-16, 2018 to be exact. Lots of furniture gets brought and sold, and lots of really authentic junk… there is no better word for some of it… but each piece is unique and the real deal.

Our goal is to connect you to all of the unique speciality shops and events and find the perfect style of decor and gifts that appeal to you. Supporting your local business people has always been the right thing to do and when you travel it is a delight to meet shop owners and discover the unusual.

Shops can come in many sizes, shapes, and forms. They might be grouped together, free standing or out on a country road. Big cities to tiny towns love their specialty shops. The photos here are just a glimpse of a Main Street, just about anywhere, shop. Variations of this scene are played out across the USA and Canada. Very often you will find these shops advertised in your local Country Register and you can pick up your free copy at each advertising shop every other month. Pick up an extra copy for a friend and go like us on Facebook. Help us spread the word about shopping at its best.
