Feb-March
2012 Issue

The Country Register of Arizona is published every two months. The time seems to fly by between issues.

For those who prefer to read on-line we are now publishing the complete paper here for you on our web site and will leave back issues on as well. How often we have been called and someone has given their paper away or misplaced it and needed the name or location of a shop, a tea room or wanted to know where there was a paper close to them.

The print edition will still be available as usual in each advertising shop and other select rack locations. Some people will always and forever prefer to sit down in a cozy chair with a cup of tea and read through the paper edition page by page. The younger generations are more apt to go on-line and so we hope to just broaden our readership and bring more customers to the shops because of this extra exposure.

We feature the AQG 2012 Annual Quilt Show, Our Heritage: Copper, Cotton and Culture and thier lovely Centennial Quilt. For Arizona’s centennial year, the Arizona Quilters Guild is celebrating our heritage of copper, cotton and culture at its annual quilt show. Quilters from around the state will gather at the Mesa Convention Center on March 8, 9, and 10 to view hundreds of quilts, shop at vendors, enjoy lectures and “make it and take it” classes plus have their quilts appraised.
It’s a great time to meet with friends, old and new, and share a mutual passion for “all things quilting!”
Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG) is especially delighted to showcase the Arizona Centennial Quilt Project’s Commemorative Quilt (featured on the front cover, photo courtesy Dan Buckley). This magnificent two-sided quilt was created by a team of quilters, historians and artisans from across the state. Featuring appliqué, piecework, embroidery, decorative threadwork and embellishment and displayed on a hand-made stand of Arizona oak, the quilt is a must-see item for all quilt lovers and those interested in our state history. The Arizona Centennial Quilt Project is an Arizona Historical Advisory Commission Arizona Legacy Project.
So, make your way to the Mesa Convention Center, 263 North Center Street, Mesa, in March to celebrate quilts and quilters!
Show hours are: Thursday, March 8, 5 to 8 p.m.; Friday, March 9, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, March 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $10 and $5 for AQG members. For more information, go to: www.azquiltersguild.org or call 602-220-9889.
