July/August 2009 Issue

The Country Register of Southern Nevada is published every two months.

For those who prefer to read on-line we are now publishing the complete paper on our web site and will leave back issues as well.

The print edition will still be available as usual in each advertising shop and other select rack locations.  Many people will always and forever prefer to sit down in a cozy chair with a cup of tea and read through the paper page by page.  The younger generations are more apt to go on-line and so we hope to broaden our readership and bring more customers to the shops because of this extra exposure.

The July/August issue treats you to an inspiring story of town that turned itself around in troubled economic times 50 YEARS AGO! Southern Nevada's publisher, Glena Dunn, visited Leavenworth, Washington, a "Bavarian Alpine Village" in the center of her home state in June. It is amazing what a community can do with a vision, pulling together, and determination, even when times are tough.

Another highlight of her trip is shared on page 9, in the article "A Blend of Charm and Friendship at Tamara's Gifts and Tea in Walla Walla, Washington, by tea columnist Lydia Harris. It tells of Lydia, and The Country Register's founder, Barbara Floyd, meeting up for tea in Glena's home town, along with Glena's sister and mother.

Be sure to check out Lydia's contribution for her regular tea column on the facing page. Even though we are far from an ocean beach here in southern Nevada, we can go to Lake Mead, or a pool side, and with a little imagination and Lydia's inspiring suggestions, have a special "Tea-lightful" time!

Pages 12 and 13 are loaded with more ideas for family summer fun.

The Country Register is here to cover the crafting community from quilting to glass and beads. We seek to feed the creative spirit in each of us with seasonal ideas for decorating and entertaining in our homes and gifts to make in each issue.

With the debut of The Country Register Fall Craft Show Guide in our Sept/October issue's centerfold last year, our upcoming issue has drawn tremendous interest. Not only are there new shows for the Fall Craft Show Guide, but there are many other interesting new advertisers coming on board to enjoy the additional distribution we enjoy at those shows. What better way to reach creative people, who enjoy getting out and seeing what's new and exciting, than to get your advertising at the events they seek and enjoy?

Don't miss a show this Fall, pick up your Fall Craft Show Guide in the Sept/Oct issue of The Country Register, at the first show of the season, Harvest Festival at Cashman Center, August 28-30.

To view the online version of last year's Fall Craft Show Guide, or any other issue, simply click on the link underneath, or on the cover image of the current issue. Wait a few moments for it to load and then scroll down through the pages, using the magnifying tool when you want to read an article.
